Hackathon with Openlab

Date: September 17, 2016

Location: Openlab, Valhallavägen 79, Stockholm

Openlab is a creative center with the mission to enable societal innovations and improve quality of life for people in the Stockholm region. We were founded by the City of Stockholm, the City County Counsel, the County Administrative board, KTH, Stockholm University, Södertörn University and the Karolinska Institute.

We take on societal challenges from all these seven partners and work with different approaches in order to find relevant solutions. One way we do this is by creating Hackathons.

In our Hackathons we create interdisciplinary teams that work with a user-centered method called Design Thinking to address a societal challenge. We believe that using these creative methods while allowing for cross-pollination of backgrounds is key to innovative ideas that actually meet the needs of the people living in Stockholm.

Participants in this particular hackathon, connected to the Open Stockholm Award, will be part of an intense creative process and work with the aim to make Stockholm a democratic and equitable city. With inspiration around using open data, the participating teams will deep-dive into the users needs, develop digital solutions, prototype them and test them on the users. The hackathon becomes a tool to collaborate and improve the city!
